This ensures minimal crowds, especially at weekends. Visitors who come after nine tend to feel the wrath of the sun. Enjoy the beauty of Xichong – Long and scenic beach in Shenzhen

The eastern part of Xichong is renowned for its picturesque landscape and there’s even a coastal walking route to facilitate your quest in admiring the area’s beauty. The route takes walkers from the east to the west, with one part of the stretch passing through a hilly area and the rest of the route shimmying along the coastline. The entire route takes 6-7 hours to complete so consider the time before heading off. We recommend starting off in Dongchong Beach, passing through the little hill, Chuanbi rock, the Sunshine Holiday Hotel, the long beach and then finally Xichong Beach.

Explore the universe at Xichong Astronomical Observatory

Here you’ll find the first combined astronomical and meteorological observatory in China. The observatory is equipped with a live observation system that’s hooked up to the internet and transmits readings. Far from town but worth the journey!”

This beach can be reached in 1 to 2 hours (or even more) from downtown Shenzhen, depending on the traffic (avoid late afternoon/beginning of evening as the locals like to go there for BBQ/camping… and that’s it: no sunbathing for them)

Avoid public holidays or children’s holidays also for that one, as the beach can be extremely packed with large groups of campers during these times.
Apart from that, Xichong is a nice place to enjoy relaxing or fun with friends on the beach, the water is good, and in the evening there are many places to enjoy your own BBQ. Also they have simple but clean and cheap bungalows.

Best beach in Shenzhen

This are the best beaches in Shenzhen… There are actually 2 Xi Chong beaches in Shenzhen… Been to both many times… The larger of the two is on the tip of Nan Ao and about 60km out of the city center… You can take buses from the Fu Tian and Luo Hu main bus stations… The other Xi Chong just past Xiao Mei Sha and Da Mei Sha beaches, is about 30km from the city center and much smaller but still very good… Bus from Fu Tian main bus station which is next to the Zhu Zi Lin Metro Station… At either of the Xi Chongs you can find various water sports… Another popular thing is to BBQ on the beach… They have places that have all you need to include food and grill… Although, you can bring your own food if you like and only pay for the grill and coals (60 RMB = $9.50)… Eat, swim, relax and be happy..!

Your photos are beautiful! I’m from America — I think many people in my country have no idea that such coastal beauty exists in China!

I wrote about my time at Xiaomeisha Beach: http://lucidpractice.com/shenzhen-china-travel-2/ but did not get a chance to check out Xichong Beach, it looks so nice! How does Xichong compare to Xiaomeisha?

You said the beach is suitable 10 out of the 12 months, that is useful information! Which two months are not suitable for going to the beach and swimming??

Thank you for a great post 🙂

    With love,

    Hi Danielle,

I have just read your post about Shenzhen China Travel. Very interesting!
Xichong is far than Xiaomeisha. You have to switch public buses if you start from downtown of Shenzhen. Few people would go to Xichong because of this. And thus you can get most out of the beautiful beach there. Xichong is more ‘wild’ compared to Xiaomeisha, facilities are not so well or complete, but scenery is better, water is cleaner. There is an island you can go from there.
