Compared to Tang poetry, the main literary form of the Song dynasty is Ci. Ci has its own advantages. Without the strict line length, Ci is able to express more refined and delicate feelings. In Ci peotry, lines can be have as short as only one chinese character or as long as dozens of Chinese characters. The earliest Ci came into being as words fitted to tunes, much like today’s lyrics of songs.
Su Shi was the greatest Ci composer of Song dynasty. Other famous talents of Ci were Li Qingzhao, Liuyong, Xin Qijie etc. Li Qingzhao was the greatest female poet in the ancient Chinese literature.
