Chinese food is well-known nowadays, many foreign friends who are living in China told me that they can get used to Chinese food very quickly. However, for newcomers/travellers in China, there is a common problem that most menus in local Chinese restaurants are completely in Chinese. Thus I prepared bellow Chinese food menu in English for foreigners convenience, a list of most common chinese dishes.
With it, you can learn to read the Chinese menu, you will be able to know how to order chinese dishes at local restaurants with ease. For short stay travellers in China, you may not bother to learn it. However for those who would like to make the best of their travel in China, or those come to China frequently, or those living in China for long term, to take some time to understand the Chinese food menu could be a good idea.
note: As far as I know, some English version Operating Systems like Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 7 may have trouble to display Chinese characters correctly. You don’t actually need the language packs themselves to display the fonts correctly, at least not always need to download a MUI (Multilingual User Interface Pack) from Windows Update. One of my friends’ computer once got another problem, we went to HuaQiangbei(electronic center in Shenzhen), a tech guy installed the operating system for us, the Chinese character display issue got fixed as well without any windows update or Chinese language package. Windows XP should already include Chinese support. It just needs to be turned on, just my opinion. Anyway, you can consult some tech guy if your computer cann’t read chinese.
