Wu Qi was a well-known general for being kind and considerate. He would dress and eat same as his soldiers. When his army was on the march, he would walk together with the soldiers rather than riding a horse.
Once a soldier was wounded and got a boil. The General visited him and sucked the pus for this soldier in presence of many other soldiers.
All soldiers in the army appraised the General. However there was still someone very sad of this. The soldier’s mother burst into tears when she heard of it.
People were confused, and some asked,
“Why do you cry? The general is so kind to your son, you should be happy for this.”
Replied the mother,
“You do not know. The general did the same to the boy’s father a few years ago, then my husband became so grateful and he sarcrificed his life to the country. I am worried my son may die for the general as well.”
